The first step in the process of creating the Modular Cardboard Sculpture was determining what object or shape to do. I chose the spade because i love playing card games. After determining to do the spade shape, I drew a life size model of it on cardboard, and continued to do cut it out 13 more times. When I finished my 14th piece, I began to make notches in 3 parts of each spade. After realizing the notches were to thick, I began to cut through the cardboard even longer, and started to piece the cardboard pieces together.
The philosophy of a Modular Sculpture is the visual art of building blocks. This sculpture sits horizontally as a three dimensional object. Surrounded and intersected by negative space. A repetitive technique of the same object . Created by geometric and organic shapes.
