The first process in creating a memorial orb, is determining the idea of what is being memorialized. I chose the theme of breast cancer because of my close family members being exposed to the cancer. Thankfully, no one in my family has passed because of this disease, and instead they were cured of it. So to commemorate the release of the pain on my family members i decided to chose this theme. After determining to do the breast cancer theme, I researched ribbons and words that associated with the bravery and defeat of breast cancer. I then sketched the idea of ribbons and words, and began working on the orb. First, I grabbed a medium block of clay and began to round it out to create the orb. I then created the pieces that were going to be displayed on the orb, and got them to stay by using the method of scoring and watery clay.
The philosophy of creating the memorial orb, is being able to recognize the honor of and idea, thing, or person. The style of using realism to tribute the orb. The technique of scoring is very important. This technique is like a gluing process, in attaching the detailed pieces of clay. The important tool of the mixture of water and clay, helps with the scoring process in keeping the pieces together.
